Irish Blackberry Season

The Blackberry season finally arrived in Ireland! This means that we are busy foraging!

The Berries are locally foraged in and around Inchicore. When foraging, we always keep nature in mind. This means that we do not pick every berry we see, operating by a rule of thirds (never taking more than a third of what you see), which ensures that there are more than enough berries left for wildlife and to maintain a viable future crop.

Our first harvest of the season was with the help of our Social Botanist group. This is a project that was set up to expand the community of local Inchicoreans, Dubliners, plant lovers, gin enthusiasts, foragers, botanists, and environmental groups, among many other eclectic personalities. Whether you’re a botanist who just likes to get some fresh air and socialise, or you want to know more about plants and spirits, or even just want to get your hands dirty in some soil.

Three smiling people stand outdoors holding buckets filled with blackberries and a bottle, behind them plants, a wooden fence, and red tents—capturing a vibrant farmers’ market or community garden moment at Stillgarden The Centre Cut Podcast.
A metal bowl filled with ripe blackberries sits on green grass next to a blackberry bush, making a perfect setting for a Stillgarden The Centre Cut Podcast picnic. Unripe and ripening berries cluster nearby.

The first harvest of the season resulted in over 3 kilograms of Irish Blackberries! These Blackberries are going to be used in our own delicious Berrissimo!

Berrissimo is a Bright and Bold Irish Spritz Aperitif that has been macerated with a vibrant mix of locally sourced and foraged Irish Blackberries, Gentian, Orris, Hibiscus, Rhubarb Root, Bitter Orange, Coriander Seed & Wormwood. An Irish take on the classic Italian Spritz. https://stillgardendistillery.com/product/berrissimo-spritz-aperitif/
